What is MANTRA Chain?

MANTRA Chain functions as a modular Layer-1 blockchain specifically engineered to address the escalating demands of decentralized finance (DeFi) and real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, with a foundational commitment to regulatory compliance. This design philosophy is central to its utility in the evolving digital asset landscape. MANTRA Chain is developed using the Cosmos SDK.

Cosmos SDK provides a flexible, scalable, and modular interoperable framework that ensures our platform can adapt to diverse and complex RWA requirements. Out of the box, the Cosmos SDK is comprised of three elements: 1) CometBFT, the consensus layer that allows for sovereign Layer One blockchains to choose their own validator set; 2) CosmWasm, a virtual machine that provides a highly secure foundation for smart contracts in the Cosmos ecosystem; and 3) IBC, the Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol, which is a General Message Passing (GMP) system for facilitating cross-chain transfers of value. With the MANTRA Chain v5.0.0 Abunnati Upgrade, we added our own EVM module that significantly opened up the design space for RWA developers. Additional Virtual Machines are under research and development, making MANTRA Chain a truly MultiVM blockchain.

MANTRA is The RWA Layer 1 Blockchain, debuting the first RWA L1 testnet in November 2023. This unique positioning allows us to operate as a permissionless blockchain while also supporting and enforcing permissioned applications capable of adherence to real world regulatory requirements. This architectural choice is a core design philosophy and a deliberate strategic decision to attract long-term institutional adoption. Unlike many general-purpose Layer-1 blockchains that aim for broad smart contract execution, at MANTRA, we aim to carve out a specialized, high-value niche. We believe that, in the future, not only will regulated onchain finance concern itself with KYC/KYB (Know Your Customer / Know Your Business) and KYT (Know Your Transaction), but also regulators will want to know who put together the block that contains that transaction. Our blockchain is the only RWA L1 that enables KYV (Know Your Validator).
